26-07-2010 Singapur 8th Global Summit of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies

At the 7th Global Summit of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies in Paris in September 2008, it was decided that the 8th Global Summit of National Bioethics Advisory Bodies will be held in Singapore from 26 – 27 July 2010.

The Bioethics Advisory Committee, together with the Ministry of Health, Singapore, will be hosting this biennial event, which started in 1996 as an initiative of the U.S. National Bioethics Advisory Commission and the French Comité Consultatif  National d'Ethique.

The topics that have been confirmed for the 8th Global Summit are:

- Ethics and control of infectious diseases
- Organ and tissue transplantation
- Research ethics committees
- Stem cell research and therapy
- Nanotechnology
- Synthetic biology 
- Healthcare organisation and ethics
- Research involving human-animal chimeras

Other topics under consideration include:

- Reproductive technologies
- End of life issues
- Medical profiling and online medicine

All national bioethics advisory bodies and international bioethics organisations
are invited to participate in this Global Summit. Each body may send one or two representatives.

There will be no registration fee.  As in previous years, the host country will bear the cost of organising the Global Summit, while participating organisations will be responsible for the travel and accommodation expenses of their representatives.
